Crypto-backed loans carry liquidation risk. If your collateral value drops, you may be required to top up or have it sold. Understand the {terms} before you borrow.

A crypto-backed loan lets you borrow supported Digital Assets, including stablecoins, by transferring eligible crypto assets to Blockchain.com as collateral. The amount you can borrow depends on the value of your collateral and the applicable Loan-to-Value (LTV). When you transfer collateral, ownership of those assets transfers to Blockchain.com in accordance with the {loanTerms}. You may repay all or part of your outstanding obligations, subject to applicable minimum thresholds, fees and operational requirements.

Your collateral is returned once your outstanding loan balance and any applicable interest, fees and other amounts due have been repaid, unless some or all of your collateral has been liquidated or otherwise applied in accordance with the applicable terms.

What is a crypto-backed loan?

A margin call is a warning that your LTV is approaching the Liquidation Threshold. We issue LTV Alerts when your LTV reaches or exceeds 80%, 85% and 90%. We use reasonable endeavours to issue an alert as soon as practicable after a threshold is reached, but alerts may be delayed. You may be asked to add collateral, make a partial repayment or take another action to reduce your LTV. You remain responsible for monitoring and managing your loan.

What's a margin call?

Liquidation means the sale, exchange, transfer or other disposal of the entirety of your collateral. The proceeds are applied towards your outstanding obligations and applicable fees, costs and expenses. Any surplus remaining after those amounts have been satisfied will be returned to you, but we do not guarantee that any surplus will remain or be recoverable. The current Liquidation Threshold is 95% LTV. If your LTV reaches or exceeds that threshold, Blockchain.com may liquidate your position.

What is liquidation?

Yes. If your LTV reaches or exceeds the liquidation threshold, your entire collateral position may be liquidated. You may also lose all your collateral in other circumstances where Blockchain.com determines that immediate liquidation is necessary, including extreme market volatility or market disruptions, as described in the {loanTerms}.

Can I lose all my collateral?

You can monitor your LTV through the Blockchain.com interface. We issue LTV Alerts when your LTV reaches or exceeds 80%, 85% and 90% and use reasonable endeavours to send them as soon as practicable after those thresholds are reached. You remain responsible for monitoring and managing your loan and should not rely solely on receiving an LTV Alert.

How will I know if my position is at risk?

Blockchain.com may allow or request you to transfer additional eligible collateral if your LTV increases. Adding collateral may reduce your LTV, depending on Blockchain.com's valuation of that collateral and your outstanding obligations. The assets and amounts that may be accepted as additional collateral will be determined by Blockchain.com and communicated through the relevant interface.

Can I add more collateral or withdraw it later?

No origination fees and no fees for repaying after the 30-day minimum. The only charges are interest (which you can see live before you confirm) and the early repayment fee if it applies.

Are there any other fees?

You'll need to be a verified Blockchain.com user and located in a supported country. Crypto lending is regulated differently from place to place, so availability varies — we'll let you know during sign-up if it's live where you are.

Who can use crypto-backed loans?

Your collateral is managed in accordance with our {loanTerms} and established custody and risk-management arrangements. When you transfer crypto as collateral, ownership of that collateral transfers to Blockchain Capital Solutions (Cayman) Limited in accordance with the {loanTerms}. Your collateral may be pooled with other assets and is not required to remain in a segregated wallet.

While your loan is outstanding, Blockchain.com may use or transfer the collateral, including by lending, pledging, staking or rehypothecating it, as permitted under the {loanTerms}.

Is my collateral safe while it's locked?

Interest accrues daily on the outstanding principal amount of your loan. Your applicable annual rate depends on your customer tier and LTV, and will be communicated to you through the Blockchain.com interface or otherwise in writing. If your applicable rate changes, the new rate generally takes effect from the relevant Origination Timestamp on the following day, as described in the {loanTerms}.

How is the standard APR applied?

Your borrowing power is based on the value of your collateral and the maximum Loan-to-Value (LTV) we allow. At launch, the maximum initial LTV is 50%. $1,000 in BTC gives you up to $500 in USDC. Your borrowing power updates in real time as collateral prices move.

How much can I borrow?

Yes. Your rate is not permanently fixed for the life of the loan; it can change in two main ways. First, it moves with your loan itself: if your LTV crosses the 25% threshold, or if your client tier changes, your applicable rate moves to the corresponding tier. Such a change generally takes effect from the origination timestamp of the day following the day the change occurs. Second, Blockchain.com may update its rates and fees more generally from time to time; under the User Agreement, changes take effect when posted, and your continued use of the loan means you accept them.

Practically, this means the cost of an open loan can rise or fall over time. The most reliable way to protect your rate is to keep your LTV comfortably within the lowest band, and to monitor notifications about any pricing updates.

Can the interest rate change in the future?

LTV is how much you've borrowed compared to the value of your collateral. The formula is (loan amount + accrued interest) ÷ collateral value. A lower LTV means lower risk and more cushion before a margin call. Your LTV goes up when interest accrues or your collateral drops in price, and goes down when you repay or add collateral. If your LTV reaches certain thresholds, margin alerts and ultimately liquidation may apply.

What is Loan-to-Value (LTV)?

Three reasons people choose to borrow: you don't trigger a sale (which can be a taxable event in many jurisdictions), you keep your exposure to any future price upside, and you don't have to give up a position you may have spent years building. A loan gets you cash today without changing what you hold.

Why borrow against my crypto instead of just selling it?

The eligible assets you can provide as collateral and the assets you can borrow are displayed in the Blockchain.com interface. The Loan Product supports selected Digital Assets as collateral and loans denominated in supported Digital Assets, including stablecoins. Supported assets may change from time to time and may vary depending on your eligibility and jurisdiction.

Which assets can I use as collateral, and what can I borrow?

Once your loan is successfully created, the USDC is credited to your Trading Account. From there, you can use it in accordance with the features available to your account and the applicable terms. Loan requests may be refused, delayed, suspended or cancelled in accordance with the {loanTerms}.

When do I get my USDC?

You may voluntarily repay all or part of your outstanding obligations at any time, subject to applicable minimum repayment amounts, fees, supported repayment assets and operational requirements. Your outstanding obligations may include principal, accrued interest, fees and other amounts due under the {loanTerms}. The applicable repayment schedule and maturity date for your loan will be communicated to you through the Blockchain.com interface or otherwise in writing.

How do repayments work?

Interest accrues daily and is added to your outstanding loan balance in accordance with the applicable interest rate. Interest compounds daily and forms part of the total amount you owe. If you repay all or part of your loan during the applicable 30-day minimum interest period, additional interest may remain payable as described below.

How is interest charged?

Only if you repay within the first 30 days of opening or increasing your loan. In that window, you'll still be charged interest for the remainder of the 30-day minimum period on the amount you repay early. After that period, no early repayment charge applies to that amount. Any applicable charge will be disclosed before you confirm your repayment.

What can I trade?

Pick a market, choose whether you're going long or short, select how much leverage you want, and enter how much you'd like to put in. How do I place a trade?

Auto-close lets you set price targets that automatically close your trade for you, so you don't have to watch the market all day. Take profit closes your trade when you've hit a profit target you're happy with. Stop loss closes it if things go the wrong way, limiting how much you can lose. We'd strongly recommend setting both whenever you open a trade.

What is auto-close (take profit & stop loss)?

Each trade uses its own separate pot of money (your margin). This means if one trade goes badly, it can't affect the funds in your other trades or your main account balance.

What is isolated margin?

Go to the Perps tab, tap withdraw, and choose where you'd like to send your funds. You can only withdraw money that isn't currently being used as margin in an open trade — to free up those funds, you'd need to close the position first.

How do I withdraw my funds?

If the market moves against you and your account no longer has enough funds to keep the trade open, your position will be automatically closed. This is called liquidation. When it happens, you lose the margin you put into that trade. You can see exactly what price would trigger liquidation in your position details.

Use lower leverage, set a stop loss, and don't put in more than you're comfortable losing. The lower your leverage, the more the market has to move before you'd be at risk.

How do I protect myself from liquidation?

It's simply about which direction you think the price is heading. If you think the price will go up, you go long. If you think it will go down, you go short. There is the potential to make money either way, it all depends on whether you called it right.

What's the difference between going long and going short?

Leverage lets you trade with more money than you actually have in your account. For example, with 10x leverage, you only need $100 to open a $1,000 trade. This means any profits are much bigger, but so are any losses. It's a powerful tool, but one to use carefully.

Think of the funding rate as a small periodic fee that gets paid between traders to keep perps prices in line with real-world prices. Depending on market conditions, you might pay this fee or receive it. You can see the current rate for any market before you trade.

When you buy crypto, you actually own the asset. With perps, you never own anything, you're simply trading on where the price goes. This means you can profit from prices falling (by going short), and you can use leverage to increase your exposure.

Hyperliquid is the technology that powers perps trading on Blockchain. It's a decentralised trading protocol that handles order execution and liquidity behind the scenes.

Perps are available to most users around the world. Due to local regulations, users in the United Kingdom and a small number of other restricted regions are currently unable to access this feature.

Who can use perps on Blockchain?

Head to the Perps tab in the Blockchain app. You'll go through a short onboarding that explains the basics, then back up your seed phrase and deposit some funds. Once that's done, you're ready to trade.

You transfer funds from your Blockchain Trading Account or DeFi Wallet. Once you confirm the transfer, your funds are automatically converted into USDC — the currency used for all perps trading. More deposit options, like buying with a card, are coming soon.
